Designed in the 1925-26 while Marcel Breuer was working as head of the cabinet-making workshop at the Bauhaus, Dessau, the chair was inspired by the frame of a bicycle, deconstructing the classic Club chair into its elemental lines and planes. The chair was called Model B3, manufactured by Thonet from the late Twenties. The name Wassily was first used by Italian manufactured Gavina, which piked up the license of production, when the chair was re-released after the War. In 1968 Knoll bought the Gavina group, and the chair joined the Knoll catalogue.

Our two pieces are remarkable for the beautiful honeyed colour of the leather.
