The Standard chair was originally designed by Jean Prouvé in 1934 for the Cité Universitaire de Nancy, and then produced for the mass market in 1950. The memorable shape of the chair, with its thin steel tubes for the front legs and voluminous sections of the back ones, was born from the simple consideration that the rear legs of a chair bearthe greater stress. For its simplicity, its perfect ergonomics and its comfort, the chair is become a true classic of modern design.
